Sushi at a price that doesn't make you scream "mamma mia?" It's possible at Momoyama. The well-priced menu isn't limited to omakase, but it's definitely the way to do at this well-priced spot with a spartan, yet welcoming, decor. The dining room is comfortable, but the counter is always the best seat in the house—the better to catch the chefs preparing, interacting and enjoying the process. The meal begins with a soothing bowl of miso soup before a procession of Edomae-style sushi with tender, flavorful fish draped over warm rice. Pieces may include firm sea bream with a touch of sea salt, meaty and smoky black cod, house-cured mackerel, supple toro and aged bluefin tuna before a baton of sweet snow crab in a citrus sauce. Fluffy cubes of tamago are the consummate finish.
