L'avis du Guide Michelin
A truly idyllic spot nestled in the sleepy little village of Schützen. This family business was run by Walter Eselböck for many years, and now his daughter Barbara and her husband, Alain Weissgerber, have taken over the reins. With a deft hand, the chef-patron seamlessly merges regional flavours, international inspirations and classic French techniques. Comprising some 15 "acts", his tasting menu opens and closes with various delicate little creations. There is also an additional menu of tempting dishes from the wood-fired oven. A shining example of this ingredient-led cuisine is the Southern Burgenland pigeon, grilled and served with both a silky purée and fresh leaves of spinach, as well as a pigeon jus perfectly accented with coriander oil. The impressive wine list features a wide range of labels from Austria and France. Always on hand, warm-hearted and obliging, Barbara Eselböck proves herself to be a natural-born hostess. With its charmingly elegant restaurant and wonderful sheltered terrace, as well as tastefully decorated guestrooms and, in the garden, a private pond for swimming, there are plenty of delightful areas where you can kick back, unwind and indulge. There is also a small grocery shop on site.
