Find this charming spot tucked in a small alley in the Mount Pleasant Neighborhood. Chef/owner Oliver Pastan has fashioned a quaint restaurant where reservations aren't accepted, so expect to encounter a line. They're all here for spot-on Italian cooking with a compact menu of small plates that are constantly evolving, plus house-made pizzas. Bar del Monte is a step above a neighborhood restaurant, and while the dishes are simple, everything is made with great care and skill (they even make their own nonalcoholic vermouth). Lamb skewers make a great opener, as do panelle, or Sicilian chickpea-flour fritters. Pizzas rotate often, but if the anchovy and squash blossom is available, don't hesitate. End with their spiced coffee gelato with candied orange peel.
