After years of running a pop-up, Chefs Alex and Yotaka "Sunny" Martin opened this brick-and-mortar in downtown Phoenix. Lom Wong delivers fiery, regional Thai dishes, all served family- style. There is a clear respect for traditional techniques and ingredients, from hand-pounded curries to fresh coconut milk. Hoi shae nam la, a subtly sweet scallop crudo, is a refreshing opener before naem khao tawt, a classic dish of crispy rice and cured pork sausage. Turn up the heat with kaeng phet charinda, a spicy mix of beef shank and tendon with curry paste, coconut and makheua eggplant. Cool down with a banana split with creamy coconut sorbet, fish sauce caramel and Thai chocolate sauce.
