Sondra Bernstein’s Cal-Med café takes on a more modern look with communal tables, orange bar stools and geometric lighting. But pilgrims to this sleepy address shouldn’t fret: Rhone-style wines (a house specialty) remain on the shelves and inviting horseshoe-shaped booths are still the best seats in the house. The nightly prix fixe—displayed on butcher paper—is as great a deal as ever, and approachable faves like fried olives and a burger are out in force. Start with a salad like grill-charred romaine Caesar with anchovy-spiked dressing; then segue to a seasonal entrée like trout with wild rice, caramelized onions and green beans. For like-minded cuisine, visit the girl & the fig in Sonoma's main square.
